The smallest details often make a huge difference in the luxury and cosmetics sectors. With its latest bottle, the essence of the J’adore L’Or perfume, the Dior brand demonstrates this. All the bottles in this iconic collection share the same design: a drop-shaped bottle with a thin neck encircled by golden links and topped with a transparent pearl. But after five years of research, the manufacturing technique of the links has been revised. Dior's goal was to achieve a precision that only the hand of a skilled artisan could provide. To industrialize a process with an authentic finish, the brand contacted Bmax. In 2011, this Toulouse-based company delved into high pulsed power, a principle known for about sixty years. By releasing an electric current in a very short time, the generated power is extremely high. So much so that metals enter a new state of “viscoplasticity.”
Bmax then launched research to propose an alternative to stamping in the industry. Less than ten years later, the company has become one of the leaders in this field. The electro-hydroforming technique involves delivering the electric discharge underwater to create a shock wave that will make the metal conform to the finest details of a mold. The result is almost limitless in terms of creation. Proof of this is the new aluminum cap of the Dior perfume, which would never have come to life without this technology.
